PHILIPPE & IANNUZZO TO RACE IDM SUPERBIKES

World Endurance Champion Vincent Philippe and World Superbike and Supersport rider Vittorio Iannuzzo will be teamed together to race the 2014 German IDM Superbike Championship.

The Frenchman and Italian will pilot the HPC Power Suzuki Racing Team’s GSX-R1000s in the series that kicks off at the beginning of next month at Lausitzring.

“Although most of the tracks are unknown to Vittorio and Vincent, we expect strong results inside the top five,” says HPC race engineer Andreas Köder.

In Supersport, 2012 Champion Tatu Lauslehto will race the Team Suzuki Mayer GSX-R600 and Nina Prinz, although focussed on the Qatar Superbike Championship, will race selected Superbike rounds on her HPC Power Suzuki Team GSX-R1000.

Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe encountered a big and buoyant crowd at Arco di Trento for the Grand Prix of Trentino and the first European round of the 2014 FIM Motocross World Championship as Glenn Coldenhoff again put his works RM-Z250 in the mix by taking third position overall and his third podium result in a row – after racing to victory in the second moto.

In cool but bright conditions, 25,000 fans packed into the small spectator zones around the slick but immensely-bumpy Italian hard-pack as MXGP thundered into life in the shadow of the epic mountains alongside.

Rockstar Energy Suzuki’s Clement Desalle won today’s Italian MXGP at Trentino in Italy for round four of 18 in the FIM Motocross World Championship.
It was the Belgian’s first victory of the season in front of 25,000 European spectators hungry for their first taste of high-level motocross action in 2014.
Desalle was faultless on the toughest racing surface of the year so far and his results of second and first in the two motos on the RM-Z450 led to a convincing success; his first since the 2013 British Grand Prix.
Joining him on the MXGP box was team-mate Kevin Strijbos; the Belgian earning his first silverware of 2014 for an emphatic weekend overall for the Lommel-based factory crew.

Voltcom Crescent Suzuki’s Eugene Laverty laid last year’s demons to rest at the Motorland Aragon circuit in Spain today with an impressive comeback ride to fifth in race one of the eni World Superbike Championship second round.

Laverty initially suffered a poor start to the morning race, dropping to 12th at the end of the first lap. Running wide in the early stages to relegate himself further, the Irishman dug deep on his Yoshimura-powered GSX-R to regain his pace, closing the gap to the front-group to hold eighth by lap 11. The latter-third of the race saw Laverty reignite the charge further, swapping positions to take fifth on the final lap.

A short, bumpy and hard-pack Arco di Trento circuit was a tough challenge for Rockstar Energy Suzuki World MXGP on the first day of action at the Grand Prix of Trentino as Clement Desalle qualified in third position for what is the fourth round of the FIM Motocross World Championship; as team-mate Kevin Strijbos emerged from the 20 minute and two-lap heat race in front of a voluminous Italian public with 10th spot.

Voltcom Crescent Suzuki will start Sunday’s WSB races from the third row of the grid after another consistent showing within the top 10 at Motorland Aragon in Spain today.

Eugene Laverty suffered a turbulent morning after technical issues hindered his progress in the last timed free practice session, but the Irishman regrouped to put in a solid performance on the Suzuki GSX-R1000 leaving him eighth on the timesheets ahead of tomorrow’s two races.

Eugene Laverty concluded Friday’s practice sessions at the Spanish Motorland Aragon circuit in a positive mind-set after making headway on the Voltcom Crescent Suzuki GSX-R1000.

Laverty, initially struggling with set-up on-board the Yoshimura-powered machine, ended the day’s two-sessions stepping-up – in both time and position – to eighth with a lap of 1’58.971 after re-evaluating the Suzuki GSX-R1000’s electronics and chassis balance; and is confident with the bike’s potential for the weekend ahead.

Alex Lowes ended his first experience of the 5,078m Teruel track in 11th position with a time of 2’00.309, despite having only-ever completed 29 laps of the Spanish circuit. The British-rider finished the day frustrated, but determined to improve and his Voltcom Crescent Suzuki team is confident that his pace is strong; given his limited track experience.

The FIM Motocross World Championship paddock will swell and fill the compact confines of the Arco di Trento circuit this weekend where the Rockstar Energy Suzuki World MXGP and Europe teams will again be protagonists for this fourth round of 18 on the 2014 schedule.

The Grand Prix of Trentino in northern Italy will start a five month spell of the calendar that will travel to the four corners of Europe and up until September when the series heads to South America once more for the final two fixtures.
